Verdin Does Some Dynamic Window Dressing for ‘Showcase of the Cities’
They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Well, these display windows definitely captured the souls of Atascadero and Arroyo Grande! Verdin Marketing recently promoted the unique attributes of both Central Coast communities by creating their window displays for the California Mid-State Fair’s “Showcase of the Cities” competition.
Located in the fairground’s Frontier Town Walkway, the Showcase of Cities captured the attention of thousands of fairgoers, who were encouraged to vote for their favorite community window online and in person July 17 through 28. The showcase theme this year was “Let’s Have S’more Fun!”
There’s S’more Fun in Atascadero
For this “Simply Genuine” city, Verdin’s creative team drew inspiration from vintage postcards and the joys of traveling in simpler times. We used a frame pressed against glass to create the rounded corners of a three-dimensional postcard.
The window display captured Atascadero’s best features and attractions: The breathtaking architecture of City Hall and the Sunken Gardens, Galaxy Theatre, the Atascadero Zoo, Cruisin’ Weekend and the Atascadero Brews and Burgers Trail.
A family outing in Arroyo Grande
For this display, Verdin partnered with a talented local artist to create a life-size shadow box treatment of a family walking through the Village of Arroyo Grande. The painted backdrop featured bright and welcoming colors similar to the bright and welcoming atmosphere of this charming town.
By using silhouettes for the children and parents, voters at the Mid-State Fair could easily imagine themselves enjoying a similar daytrip filled with food, fun and, of course, roosters. The overall aesthetic also paid homage to Arroyo Grande’s beautiful, Victorian-era buildings.
Other communities participating in the Showcase of the Cities included: Grover Beach, Morro Bay, Oceano/Nipomo, Paso Robles, Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo, Templeton, Cuesta College and Visit SLO CAL.
