Make your holiday “#SLOBright” by shopping local this season! That’s the main message of Verdin’s most recent campaign for the City of San Luis Obispo. By shopping local, residents can brighten up the end of a tumultuous year and help create a brighter future for the city as it continues to grapple with the economic impact of COVID-19.
The campaign features a custom-made motion graphic that elicits a feeling of nostalgia and hope with glittering typography and relaxing holiday music in the background.
“Spark joy and light in San Luis Obispo,” the motion graphic says. “Shop local and help businesses shine. Your support makes the season SLO Bright.”
Another creative way our client is reminding people to do this is through a feature called SLO Business Insider, which features a local business and owner online and on social media twice a month.
Recently the spotlight shined on Amber Karson of Karson Butler Events, Steve Bland of SLO Provisions, Miranda Battenberg of SLO Sweets, and Jenny and Melissa of The Junk Girls. Each profile includes an in-depth look at how the business came to be, some fun facts about the owners, and a testimonial of why shopping local matters.
“Your decisions on where to spend your dollar absolutely make a difference,” Amber Karson says. “When you support our local shop, you keep dollars here in our community, create local jobs and help create a downtown we are proud of and want to stroll in. It takes intention to create change, but I believe a city is vibrant when we invest in small business.”
Last month, Instagram users learned all about Karson Butler Events in the historic Ah Louis Store building in a Story designed by Verdin, as well as Instagram and Facebook posts for the City of SLO and ShareSLO. The latest business featured was Tom’s Toys to encourage people to shop local for their children this holiday season.
