Just this morning, our very own Mary Verdin and Stephanie Goodwin had the chance to speak to a group of Cal Poly students in a class called Central Coast PRspectives (CCPR). This class is an elective where students work on real public relations projects for small businesses and nonprofits – how cool is that? Mary and Stephanie shared what goes on in the day-to-day here at Verdin to give some insight into what students might expect if they choose a career in marketing or PR.
We’re passionate about student initiatives like CCPR, and regularly speak to classes and clubs on campuses in the San Luis Obispo area. We love the opportunity to support students and mentor those entering the world of marketing and PR.
One piece of that mentorship is our internship program. Every quarter, we take on a student intern and immerse him or her in our industry. We believe in giving interns real responsibility and, in turn, are constantly impressed by the quality of work we receive. We’ve been fortunate to work with some truly talented and ambitious students and feel honored to be able to provide a springboard from which they can pursue their individual career interests.
“As a Cal Poly journalism student, I have been able to put the skills I learned to good use and Verdin has encouraged me to reach out of my comfort zone to learn new skills and techniques valuable to my future career,” writes our current intern, Cal Poly Journalism student Nicolette DeLuca. “I could not have imagined a better company, environment or group of people to experience as my first agency internship!”
