Hospice SLO County preparing for Light Up a Life 2016
As joyful and celebratory as the holidays can be, the sad reality is they also bring pronounced attention to the empty chairs around the table – and no amount of busyness can push that reminder out of the mind of someone grieving the loss of a loved one.
Hospice SLO County understands the necessity of taking the time and space to remember those dear to us who have passed. For the 32nd year in a row, they will hold their annual Light up a Life remembrance ceremonies at the beginning of December in locations all across San Luis Obispo County. At these ceremonies, participants illuminate lanterns as a reminder that those no longer here in person live on through the memories of their loved ones – memories that are especially close during the holidays.
Eight different ceremonies will be held from December 4-12, in locations spanning from Nipomo to Paso Robles. For a complete list of dates and locations, visit hospiceslo.org/events/light-up-a-life.
Those who wish to support Hospice SLO County through their participation can have their loved one’s name read at the remembrance ceremony for a donation of $15. For donors of $1000 or more, a tile of life will be designed and engraved with their loved one’s name and installed in the Hospice SLO County Meditation garden.
Hospice SLO County offers all services free of charge, relying on community support to help them provide in-home care to those with a life-limiting illness and grief counseling to those mourning the loss of a friend or family member.
