Nourishing Our Future: Food Bank Coalition Launches Public Phase of Capital Campaign
We are so excited to announce that The Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County is officially into the public phase of their Nourish Our Future Campaign! The goal of the campaign is to raise $2.5 million for the complete ownership of the Food Bank’s new central facility on Kendall Road in San Luis Obispo.
Currently, the Food Bank runs operations out of warehouses located in Paso Robles and Oceano. Consolidating to a central facility will result in cost savings of $200,000 – $300,000, which means more funds can go to providing nutritious food for recipients. The facility broke ground in November 2015 and will be designed to meet the specific needs of a Food Bank to increase efficiencies in their process of collecting and distributing food.
The Nourish Our Future campaign kicked off in fall of 2015, and so far has brought in almost $700,000. The current public phase of the campaign includes corporate giving programs, as well as naming recognition opportunities for individual donors or companies who would like their own name, or the name of a loved one, honored as a tribute in the new Food Bank facility.
In 2015 alone, the Food Bank Coalition distributed 6.2 million pounds of nutritious food, 49% of which was fresh produce. This food assistance serves 50,000 people throughout our county who struggle to meet their basic needs. Through their food rescue programs like GleanSLO, the Food Bank also saved over 3 million pounds of food from going to waste.
