Sheriff’s Family Day – A Day in the Life of Law Enforcement
Where can kids feel the push of the wind as a helicopter lands right in front of them, watch Sheriff’s Office K-9’s at work, or marvel at demonstrations from the local SWAT Team and Bomb Squad? At this year’s Sheriff’s Family Day in San Luis Obispo! On September 12 from 10 am – 4 pm, the SLO Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation is hosting the annual Sheriff’s Family Day to show kids and families what it means to have a career in law enforcement. The event will take place at the Madonna Inn Meadows off Hwy 101 and admission is free for all ages.
This year’s Sheriff’s Family Day schedule includes events and exhibits all day long which demonstrate the many tasks taken on by Sheriff’s Office personnel. Families can witness a demonstration by the Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, and watch how the Jaws of Life get injured citizens out of wrecked vehicles.
The day will also include four bike giveaways where children can win a refurbished bike and helmet. Children will be allowed to gather free items at each booth, climb into fire trucks and police cars and learn how to use other equipment utilized by first responders.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 12 from 10 am – 4 pm at the Madonna Meadows next to Highway 101. Admission is free and kids under 12 will also receive a free hot dog, healthy snack and drink, T-shirt, Sheriff’s brag tag and a bike raffle ticket. Food and drink vendors will be present as well.
Police departments from all along the Central Coast will join in the day’s festivities, and are ready and excited to share their careers with kids. Booths about health, boy scouts, fire, state parks, veterans, crime lab and search and rescue will also be present.
Sheriff’s Family Day is put on by the Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation, a non-profit public benefit corporation that provides additional funding and support to the Sheriff’s Department.
