Hunger can happen to anyone. Your neighbor. Your co-worker. Your friend.
Even you.
Who will you help?
That’s the question being posed to San Luis Obispo County residents in the SLO Food Bank’s holiday fundraising campaign. According to the nonprofit’s leaders, hunger has more than doubled in our county this year due to the pandemic.
“Many people are experiencing food insecurity for the first time in their lives,” CEO Garret Olson wrote in a recent letter to donors. “It is highly likely that someone who was part of your pre-pandemic life is now struggling with this basic life necessity.”
Fueled by this sense of urgency, Verdin worked with the SLO Food Bank to create the “Who will you help?” campaign, which focuses on capturing the faces of hunger in our community. For this campaign our team created a 15-second motion graphic, social media content, a website banner and public service announcement to inspire people to donate.
“Our goal was to make the reality of hunger feel more personal to potential donors. The truth is we all most likely know someone who is struggling to put food on the table right now,” Art Director Megan Condict said. “Who will you help?”
Now, because of the economic impact of COVID-19, two out of every five SLO County residents are hungry, and 40% of those hungry people are children and roughly 20% are seniors. The SLO Food Bank is calling on community members to provide their neighbors with healthy food, hope and happiness this holiday season by making monetary donations at www.slofoodbank.org.
In addition to its fundraising campaign, SLO Food Bank is hosting a virtual, socially distant Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. Participants can register to run or walk on their own, donate, or sign up to sponsor someone on the SLO Food Bank’s website.
KSBY is also hosting its 9th annual Season of Hope in partnership with the SLO Food Bank and several other local organizations to collect food, toys and monetary donations for local families. This year’s Season of Hope looks different for the SLO Food Bank as they are not accepting in kind donations for operational and public safety reasons. Monetary donations are encouraged to support families and neighbors in need this holiday season.
